Family Fun at the Big Bear Zoo

Big Bear Alpine Zoo

Big Bear Alpine Zoo is the “go to” facility for injured and imprinted animals. Their rehabilitation facility offers injured, orphaned and imprinted wildlife a safe haven, either temporarily while they heal, or permanently if they are unable to survive on their own. Most of the Zoo's funding comes directly from admission costs, but there are many ways you can show your support for this wildlife sanctuary.

Adopt An Animal! Sponsor one of the zoo's residents for a year!
Donate! Your donation will support costs of building the new zoo, feeding the animals, construction of exhibits, general operations, medical care for the animals, educational programs and special events.
Become A Member! Enjoy free zoo admission for one year, a subscription to the e-version of Paw Prints Newsletter, and gift shop discounts depending on membership level. Visit their website or call 909-584-1299 for more info. The Zoo is located at 747 Clubview Dr, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315.

Big Bear Discovery Center

Opened in 1998, the Big Bear Discovery Center introduces visitors to the beautiful flora and fauna of the Big Bear Valley. Stop by to see exhibits, participate in weekly programs, and enjoy eco-tours. The Discovery Center is dedicated to making our visitors' experience enjoyable while heightening awareness and understanding of responsible visitation in the community and the San Bernardino National Forest. The Discovery Center is located at 40971 North Shore Drive/Hwy 38, Fawnskin, CA 92333 Phone: (909) 382-2790

The Discovery Center is managed by the Southern California Mountains Foundation, a local non-profit supporting youth development, natural resources, and stewardship of the natural environment.

The Discovery Center is currently closed for a remodel. The outdoor areas will be open for information, some types of passes, nature walks, etc. Open hours will be Thurs-Mon, from 9am-4pm.

Gold Rush Mining Adventures

Discover a unique and immersive attraction that pays tribute to Big Bear's long gold mining history. Your little prospectors can mine for treasures in a themed exploration. From digging through a pit, to excavating hardened materials, seizing items from hidden spaces, cracking open your own geode, and panning for gold in a running water sluice, you're sure to find precious loot that - of course - is yours to keep. Gold Rush Mining Adventures is located at 40016 Big Bear Blvd. Call 909-866-5678 for additional info.

Summit Mining Co.

Junior miners can grab a bag of mining rough and head to the sluice to uncover gemstones, arrowheads and other fun finds just like the historic gold miners did over 100 years ago in Big Bear. Summit Mining Co is located in the Snow Summit Base Camp area where kids can also enjoy rock climbing, a EuroBungee, a zipline, and more. Visit for operating hours and where your little ones can start digging up their treasures.
